New Map, New Miles: The Nagpur–Goa Expressway 2.0

The Maharashtra government has approved a revised alignment for the proposed Nagpur–Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, increasing its total length from 802.59 km to 856.76 km. The updated plan, cleared through a recent government resolution, includes significant route changes across multiple districts and the addition of Satara to the project corridor.

Originally approved in February 2024, the expressway was planned to run from Pavnar in Wardha district to Patradevi in Sindhudurg. However, strong resistance to land acquisition—particularly in Kolhapur and surrounding areas—led to the cancellation of earlier notifications and prompted a comprehensive review of the project. Authorities subsequently explored alternative alignments, conducted field inspections, and consulted public representatives before finalizing the revised route.

While the alignment remains unchanged in some districts, notable modifications have been introduced in others to address concerns raised by local communities. As a result, the expressway will now pass through 13 districts instead of the originally planned 12.

Spanning 856.76 km, the corridor is designed to enhance connectivity and link key religious destinations. It is also expected to significantly reduce travel time between Nagpur and Goa from around 18 hours to approximately 8 hours, providing a major boost to regional connectivity and economic development.
